The Passing of Harold Camping's Judgment Day

Today is Sunday May 22nd and it is no to surprise to most Christians that we are still here. The rapture has not yet taken place. Harold Camping spent millions of dollars warning the world that Judgment Day was coming on May 21 at 6:00pm. Today, he and his followers have to face the fact that his message was not true.

We already knew that the Scripture says no man knows the day or hour when Christ will come for his church.
Matt 25:13 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour."

Luke 12:40 "You also must be ready , because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."
Mr. Camping had ways around explaining these passages, but that is what every false teacher does. They take a clear teaching of Scripture and argue it away. We have said it before and it bears repeating now. When interpreting a passage of Scripture always remember, if the plain text makes perfect sense, then seek no other sense.

While the rapture has not yet taken place, we know that some day it will. The rapture itself is not a myth but the world believes that it is. Non-believers and believers alike have had a field day making fun of Harold Camping and his followers, but while he had the day and the hour wrong, what he had right was the event. What he also had right was the fact that the world needs to hear that message. His false teaching and foolishness will now make sharing that message more difficult, but it still needs to be done. The world needs to hear the truth.

Not only does the world need to hear the truth, Harold Camping and his followers need to hear it too. Can you imagine standing here on earth today when you were absolutely, positively sure that you would not be? That has to be very disappointing and I pray that now they have seen the errors of their ways that they will be willing to open their eyes and search the Scripture for the truth.

There is an open Letter to Harold Camping and Those Who Expected Judgment Day on the blog Philosophical Fragments by Timothy Dalrymple. He has already done an excellent job reaching out in a very loving way to those who have followed this teaching and helping them answer the question, 'what now?' Now that we know we have followed a lie, where do we turn and what do we do? If you are one of those people, who expected NOT to be here today, please read his letter and know that there is still hope.

For the rest of us. Remember that our task is difficult with or without people like Harold Camping. Atheists, agnostics and peoples of every other faith do not believe in the rapture or the resurrection of the dead as taught in the Holy Bible. They will use this silly prediction and any other excuse they can to mock us, ridicule us and scoff at us. But we should expect that they would.
2 Peter 3:3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water.

The world has deliberately forgotten God and his teachings. We can only preach the gospel and if they scoff, then let them scoff. Keep the faith and keep sharing the truth. Of course, be sure that the message you are sharing is just that, the truth. We must be guarded from error and grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and then stand firm in the promises of God.

2 Peter 3:17 Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

James 5: 8 You too, be patient and stand firm , because the Lord's coming is near.
