Debating Calvinism: Five Points, Two Views
by Dave Hunt & James White
James White is a strong advocate for Calvinism, and Dave Hunt feel strongly against it. These two debate one another in this book, in a format that is in debate form. Each presents their views and then offers rebuttals to each view in written format. I feel this is a much better way to have such a debate than verbally, as often so much is left unsaid. Here each can analyze each others written words and then think about what they will say in response. I am a non-Calvinist and feel that Dave Hunt offered exceptional answers and rebuttals. Over all I could not help how James White tried to insult Dave Hunt for his intelligence in history and biblical knowledge. At the same time we did not find such personal attacks from Dave Hunt, but rather he continually addressed the issue at hand and done so using Scripture. I felt Dave Hunt showed a tremendous about of class, while James White continued in his ad hominem attacks. For those who want to see both sides of the issue, you will in this book, including if I might add, some fruit of these believers. I must also include that there was a disagreement I had with Dave Hunt in his section on Romans chapter 8. James White was partially correct in the meaning of the text, except for his misuse of a few passages that lead him to believe we cannot chose God. Reading this book did get me emotionally charged, as this issue is near and dear to my heart. I had a few nights when I would have trouble sleeping as I was thinking of what one or the other said.
